Ferdie Platt is a character in the Lady in the Lake novel and in the adapted television series, of the same name. In the TV series, they are portrayed by Y'lan Noel.
Biography[]
Ferdie Platt is a police officer. At the police station, he notices Maddie and Judith being questioned after they discover Tessie's body.
Ferdie meets Maddie again after she stages a robbery in her new apartment to obtain insurance money. Suspicious of her claims, Ferdie informs her that insurance payouts take months, which frustrates Maddie and complicates her financial situation. After Maddie spirals into despair and gets high with Judith, Ferdie arrives at her apartment. In her vulnerable state, Maddie seduces Ferdie. They start to see each other after this.
Later, Ferdie is involved in the pursuit of a suspect in Myrtle’s assassination attempt, working alongside Officer Davis. During the chase, Officer Davis is tragically killed. Later, Maddie inquires about the incident, but Ferdie is reluctant to share details, not wanting to give her a scoop for her newspaper.
Ferdie, who is romantically involved with Maddie, is forced to resign from the police force after Officer Bosco threatens him. He faces racial discrimination and the risk of exposure for his relationship with Maddie. Ferdie proposes to Maddie that they move to Virginia to openly live as a mixed-race couple, influenced by the famous case of the Lovings. Maddie decides against it and the two part ways.
